The Red Death 3

  1. THE RED DEATH 3 - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on a 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears in the fan press book, "WHISPERS, Vol.4, No.3-4, 1982," illustrating a proposed film presentation titled, "The Red Death," written by Ray Russell, based on Poe's story, "The Mask of the Red Death".

Stuart D. Schiff, editor and publisher of "Whispers" is a dentist by profession, and one day he phoned to ask if I would be interested in a special commission; he wanted to hire me to design and illustrate a booklet that would be available to his young patients as they sat in the waiting room. The text of the booklet would be written by him with the purpose of easing the fears children have about going to a dentist.

I accepted! And after requesting and receiving photos of the building, the waiting room, the office, the chair, and other equipment, I went ahead and designed the booklet.
